NPU commits $25,319 to United Way for 2022

Despite the ongoing challenges of the pandemic, the employees of Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) completed another successful fundraising campaign for the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut, raising $20,319. When combined with NPU’s corporate contribution, a total of $25,319 will be contributed to the United Way in 2022.

NPU supports Cultural Coalition

The Cultural Coalition is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Norwich, and helps to improve the economy, vitality, and quality of life in Eastern Connecticut by supporting the arts, cultural, and creative community. They are helping manage and administer $500,000 of Norwich’s ARPA funding for arts and culture to support economic recovery and address the impact of the pandemic.

Customers appreciate NPU response to Tropical Storm Henri

In August, Southeastern Connecticut was struck by Tropical Storm Henri, which at its peak produced sustained winds of 40 mph and heavy rain, resulting in more than 2,500 NPU customers losing power during the height of the storm. Through the hard work of our crews, all customers had power safely restored within 24 hours of 

Eighth Street water main project successfully completed

In August of 2021, NPU successfully completed one of our most difficult water main repair projects ever – the replacement of a 20-foot section of water main under the railroad tracks on Eighth Street in Greeneville.

NPU approves economic development rate

During its August Board meeting, NPU Commissioners approved a new economic development rate to help attract large commercial and industrial customers to Norwich. The new rate would apply only to the largest customers that consumer 100,000 kilowatts of electricity or more each month. Eligible customers would receive a discount over five years that would decrease 

Get your home or business ready for the winter weather

Get your home or business ready for the winter weather by making it more energy efficient:

1. Caulk around windows to keep warm air from escaping and cold air from entering. Even if you have done this in the past, caulking needs to be replaced periodically.
2. Replace weatherstripping around doors. If you can see light around the edges of your exterior doors, an investment of a few dollars to install weatherstripping can save you hundreds of dollars in heating costs.
