Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) is celebrating Public Power Week and National Public Gas Week which runs between October 4-10, 2020. These annual events that bring attention to the unique business models and considerable benefits not-for-profit utility providers bring to their customers and communities.

“NPU is proud of the critical role we play in the daily lives of our customers – from storm response to the routine customer service issues that are part of our jobs every day,” said Chris LaRose General Manager of NPU. “While we cannot celebrate with any public events this year, we hope people take a few minutes to visit our Facebook page to learn more about how we meet the needs of our customers every day.”

Throughout the course of the week, NPU will post a variety of content on its Facebook and Twitter pages to highlight the important work done every day for the community we are proud to serve.

NPU is one of more than 2,000 other community-powered, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 49 million Americans.  NPU is also one of 1,000 public natural gas systems serving more than 6 million customers across the United States.

Publicly-owned utilities emphasize their local control, very competitive rates, their economic impact on their communities, and their commitment to customer service.

Public Power Week is an annual national observance coordinated by the American Public Power Association. The American Public Power Association is the voice of not-for-profit, community-owned utilities that power 2,000 towns and cities nationwide. The Association represents public power before the federal government to protect the interests of the more than 49 million people that public power utilities serve and the 93,000 people they employ. It advocates and advises on electricity policy, technology, trends, training, and operations. Its members strengthen their communities by providing superior service, engaging citizens, and instilling pride in community-owned power. More information is available at www.PublicPower.org.

Public Gas Week is an annual nationwide event and is intended to build public awareness about the value of having a community-owned natural gas utility. Public natural gas utilities are not-for-profit retail distribution entities that are owned by and accountable to the citizens they serve. They include municipal gas distribution systems, public utility districts, county districts, and other public agencies that have natural gas distribution facilities.
