In recognition of Public Power Week (October 3-9, 2021), Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) is making a $1,000 donation to United Community & Family Services (UCFS) in recognition of the outstanding job its front-line healthcare workers have done for the region throughout the pandemic.
“The employees of NPU are very proud of the critical role we play in the day-to-day lives of our customers. We are also inspired by the incredible commitment demonstrated by the men and women of UCFS over the past eighteen months in service to our community,” said Chris LaRose, General Manager of NPU.
Every day over the past eighteen months, UCFS has been at the forefront of the battle against Covid, promoting public health and safety through a variety of programs and services. Throughout the pandemic, UCFS has been meeting the needs of the community in many ways, including:
- Administering more than 13,000 Covid tests
- Providing more than 10,000 vaccinations
- Establishing and running a drive-through food pantry that has provided food to more than 16,000 people.
“Throughout the pandemic, our team has shown true dedication and determination. We are thrilled that NPU has recognized our team during Public Power Week,” said Pamela Allen Kinder, Vice President of Business Development at UCFS Healthcare.
Public Power Week is an annual national observance coordinated by the American Public Power Association. The American Public Power Association is the voice of not-for-profit, community-owned utilities that power 2,000 towns and cities nationwide. The Association represents public power before the federal government to protect the interests of the more than 49 million people that public power utilities serve and the 93,000 people they employ. It advocates and advises on electricity policy, technology, trends, training, and operations.
