NPU to extend agreement with MUTA to supply water for 10 years
In August, the Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) Board of Commissioners authorized General Manager Chris LaRose to execute a contract to extend the utility’s agreement to provide water to the Mohegan Utility Tribal Authority for the next ten years.
“NPU has enjoyed a great working relationship with the Mohegan Tribe and MUTA for the past ten years,” said LaRose. “We look forward to working with our friends and neighbors in the years ahead.”
The water supply agreement between NPU and MUTA is a ten-year extension of the existing agreement that has been in place since August, 31, 2009.
The essential terms and conditions of the existing agreement will still apply under the new deal:
• The MUTA will receive its first 450,000 gallons per day (GPD) from the NPU supply with any additional supply delivered from the Groton system through the Town of Montville water system.
• Provisions exist within the agreement for deviations from the 450,000 GPD based on temporary conditions within either the Norwich or Groton/Montville system(s).
• MUTA pays for water at the same rate as any other Norwich customer.
