Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) is among a small group of public power utilities to earn the Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) designation from the American Public Power Association (APPA), which made the announcement on May 18. The RP3 designation lasts for three years; NPU was also recognized in 2012.

Only 97 of the nation’s more than 2,000 public power utilities were recognized with the RP3 designation. NPU was among an even more select group of 25 utilities that achieved the Diamond Level Award, securing at least 98 of a possible 100 possible points in the defined criteria.

This very significant achievement is a result of the hard work of the men and women of NPU who are focused on anticipating and meeting the needs of our customers, every day, month after month throughout the year.

The RP3 designation recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement.

Criteria within each of the RP3 disciplines are based upon sound business practices and utility industry standards. The RP3 application guide provides in-depth explanations of the requirements for each area, including the scoring guidelines.
