City of Norwich issues Prepare to Evacuate Notification

Please pay close attention to this important notification from the City of Norwich.

With heavy rains likely in the overnight hours of Friday, January 12 into Saturday, January 13, residents living near the Yantic River should be prepared to evacuate in the event the river begins to flood excessively.

It is possible that the Yantic River could reach historic levels which could create a public safety emergency.

Norwich residents are urged to remain alert and aware in the hours ahead.

In the event an evacuation is required, you will receive another notification via your phone. When leaving your home, please avoid any streets in your neighborhood that are prone to flooding, as we saw earlier this week.

Kelly Middle School will serve as a community shelter under the direction of the Red Cross if an evacuation is ordered.

In the event of an emergency, or if you cannot evacuate your home, call 9-1-1 immediately.
