In December, 2014, Sheffield Pharmaceuticals of New London announced their intention to expand their operations into a vacant property in the Stanley Israelite Business Park in Norwich, following the purchase of a 136,000 square-foot facility at 9 Wisconsin Avenue from Block and Kahn.
“Sheffield Pharmaceuticals is proud to be creating more US manufacturing jobs. Our transition to the Norwich warehouse solves a long-standing logistical problem for us, and is absolutely required to support the complexities of supplying our customers and their 60,000 US retail outlets,” said Jeff Davis, COO of Sheffield Pharmaceuticals. “This move will add jobs in both Norwich and New London. We will continue to manufacture all products at our corporate headquarters in New London and this expansion is great for Connecticut’s economy as we continue to add US manufacturing jobs to support the growth of our health care and beauty product lines.”
The purchase of the warehouse was made possible through a combination of seller financing and support from Chelsea Groton Bank. The purchase price of the building was $3.7 million; Block and Kahn invested more than $1 million into the building – for cleanup, painting and energy efficient lighting and heating – to facilitate its sale.
“We are pleased to see that our investments have paid off and that the renovations were an important consideration for Sheffield to expand to Norwich,” said Ed Block of Block and Kahn.
Sheffield Pharmaceuticals is a contract manufacturer and supplier of branded products, such as the Dr. Sheffield line and private label over-the-counter health care and beauty products, for the largest retailers and drug store chains in the United States.
“With their tradition of creating high-quality jobs in Connecticut, we are very excited to see Sheffield Pharmaceuticals moving into our business park,” said Bob Mills, Executive Director of the Norwich Community Development Corporation, which was involved in the marketing of the site and Norwich as a host community.
