Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) announced that Park Center Road (formally known as Judd Road) will be closed to traffic beginning on Monday afternoon at 3:30 PM, September 11th and is expected to re-open Wednesday, September 13th at 3:30 PM.  This closure is necessary to begin construction of a new water storage tank.

Utility industry recognizes the importance of Call Before You Dig process

NORWICH – Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) hopes this Friday – August 11, 8/11, will serve as a reminder for customers to call 8-1-1 prior to undertaking any excavation work near their home or business to have underground utilities clearly marked.

“The highest priority of NPU is the safety of our customers, community and employees,” said John Bilda, General Manager of NPU. “It is essential that customers call 8-1-1 before getting started with any work that involves digging. The potential impacts are too severe to ignore and this critical step is a great way to promote public safety.”

NPU’s Lost and Found now includes a drone

 

Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) has a new and unusual addition to its lost and found collection: a drone.

On Tuesday morning, a Promark VRP drone, weighing approximately 1.5 pounds was found by an employee near NPU’s Occum water tank during a routine inspection. The drone’s owner is asked to contact NPU at 860.887.2555 to arrange for its return, pending confirmation.

In response to extremely warm and humid weather that is impacting Connecticut this week, Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) has issued a Power Alert, effective between 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Thursday, July 20, 2017.

 Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) has launched a new online billing and payment service through Invoice Cloud, offering its customers greater ease and flexibility to view and pay their utility bills each month.

Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) will install the piping and infrastructure for an underground natural gas regulating station at the intersection of Broadway and Chestnut Street in Downtown Norwich to improve its overall system reliability. 

The construction will take place between 7:00 pm and 5:00 am, beginning on June 18 and running through Friday morning, June 23. This work has been scheduled to minimize any impact on traffic Downtown and will not require any roads to be closed.

NPU’s online bill pay system will be off line on Sunday, May 28, 2017 from 2:00 am to 6:00 am for routine maintenance. During this time, we will be unable to process online payments.

NPU customers targeted by scammers

Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) is warning customers to be on guard from phone scammers who are identifying themselves as working with or on behalf of the utility. NPU has received reports from numerous customers who have been contacted by individuals posing as legitimate vendors.

The scammers are trying to collect on past-due bills and threatening to shut off service unless a credit card payment is made through a third party provider within an hour.
