Storm Restoration Update - October 31, 2017

At 5:30 on Tuesday morning, October 31st, NPU crews headed back into the field to resume the process of restoring electricity for our customers. At this time, approximately 700 customers are out of service, down from a peak of 3,400 on Monday.

On Monday evening, two crews from Freeport Electric from Freeport, New York arrived as part of a mutual aid effort to assist with restoration efforts in Norwich. NPU has also secured two private electrical contractors to assist with individual service installations.

NPU’s priorities today are to work on the outages that are impacting the greatest number of customers: along Washington Street, the Mish Drive area of town and Roth Street / North Cliff Street. A significant outage also remains along Asylum Street.

There are a total of 52 outages that need to be addressed and NPU is cautiously optimistic that we can resolve all of them today.

Customers are reminded to assume any downed wired is energized and potentially very dangerous. We also insist that any electric generator in use be installed by a licensed electrician.

NPU will provide regular updates throughout the day.
